About us

The Student ASCE Steel Bridge Competition challenges students to extend their classroom knowledge to a practical and hands-on steel-design project. Steel Bridge is an annually occurring national competition which allows students to get involved in a constructive, competitive environment to show off their classroom knowledge, creativity, and ability to work in a team setting. The competition is focused around a proper design to extend student’s classroom knowledge, project management for those on the team to properly execute and fabricate their bridge, and teamwork as the students on the build team must come up with a plan to assemble their bridge and do so with precision. Every year, hundreds of universities compete in their region to shoot for a chance to compete at the national level.

A&M Steel Bridge has been going for over 40 years, but has faced lots of challenges. Two years ago, A&M Steel bridge was able to get their first bridge to competition as COVID-19 cut off all passing of knowledge, and the club had almost no leadership pass since everyone went online. Last year the team was able to establish its individual branches of a design team, fabrication team, and a build team. Our goal last year was to focus on the bridge’s strength, which proved to be inefficient in build time. This year, our team has put together all of our experience, as well as using classroom knowledge and engineering design programs like SAP 2000 to design a bridge that will be both strong and efficient to assemble. We are excited to show our determination to bring excellence to this year’s competition with a bridge that excels in all aspects of the competition.
